In my opinion of John brown he was known as a martyr. A martyr is someone who killed/got killed for their own beliefs. John brown attacked a federal base that held slaves and john brown wanted to free all of them. He was captured and sentenced for treason. He was hanged on december 2nd. It was a good reason because he was fighting for what he believed in.

A martyr is someone who was willing to die for their beliefs. He fought against slavery he though he did kill people he had a good cause.  I think that John brown is a martyr because he was willing to die so that slavery would end. He was totally against slavery and I think that makes him a good guy.

John Brown is a murderer because killed innocent people when he could have settled it in a different way like, a protest or a speech. He is a murderer because he killed people and burned hotels. I guess that he could have been a good guy but he took it to a extreme measure.

John Brown was remembered as a martyr in the North, but terrorist in the South. In the year of 1859 in Harpers Ferry, John Brown and other followers tried to to start a slave rebellion. Although he was fighting for the right thing, to end slavery, he did it in the wrong way. According to The Road to Disunion “Brown’s men cut telegraph wires and captured some 60 citizens of the town to hold them hostage.” He killed people, which led him to his death. I think he is a murderer not a martyr because he killed people instead of saving them. His plan was not strong enough and it didn’t do anything to change the way slavery was.

I think John Brown is a murder. He killed innocent people for a slave revolt that didn’t work. People died because of him. Also the people who worked with him died because of him. Everyone who was involved with his side on this attempted revolt, died. He really didn’t help with the cause in the North. “Brown and his 21 followers overpowered a watchman and seized the arsenal...Brown and his men were soon trapped in the armory.” 21 people were trapped and killed. 21 human beings!

Was John Brown a good or bad guy? It could really be argued either way, he had a good point but did not have to take it as far as he did. John Brown was a murder, a terrorist, he killed innocent people, and wanted a war just for his cause against slavery. John Brown led an attack on pro-slavery men in Pottawatomie Creek, Kansas, murdering five men and boys. This lead to an uprising of a small war between pro-slavery and antislavery groups. The name Bleeding Kansas came after that attack. This is just one thing that John Brown could have taken a different approach to the situation. But that wasn’t enough, John Brown lead another rebellion by capturing 60 citizens of the town to hold them hostage. With all of his efforts to end slavery and get a point across, in the end nothing changed and nothing was influenced by his murder. John Brown was a murder not a martyr.

The One That Risked his Life to Help Slaves

John Brown is a martyr. I think that because he was just trying to help abolish slavery. He was willing to do whatever it takes to stop slavery. He risked his life to help slavery. It is not the best way but it is a way to help stop slavery. It is those people that risk their lives that helped slavery stop. John Brown may have killed, but he killed because he needed some way to stop slavery. John Brown is a good guy! John Brown believes slavery isn’t going to stop without violence and he is right. Slavery didn’t stop without violence. Violence isn’t the answer, but it had to happen. The South wouldn’t stop slavery by someone talking to them or protesting.

I think John Brown is a martyr because we wanted slavery to end which is a very good thing to end. If John Brown did not try to end slavery the attention to slavery would not be in the world. He killed people for a very good cause. The reason he was fighting was because he wanted slaves to join him when we was attacking the base. He was going to help the slaves escape and then make them follow him into the Appalachian Mountains. So in all I think John Brown is a Martyr.

I think that John Brown was a murderer because he killed an innocent watchman and wanted to give slaves weapons to kill people or slave owners. Also, he wanted abolitionists to kill slave supporters during Bleeding Kansas. There is absolutely no reason why he needs to kill people that support slave. It is wrong to kill people violently. He should have talked instead of violence because the constitution protects freedom of speech and the constitution is the law of the land. Does he really deserve the half mast?

John Brown in my opinion was a martyr and he was killed for his beliefs. He tried to free slaves and lead a slave rebellion even if he would get killed in doing so. He led his men to Harper’s Ferry which was an arsenal in Virginia, and overtook it to supply his men and slaves with weapons. He felt as though it was his personal mission to end slavery with the help of his sons. He was very brave for doing these things.

John Brown, Bad or Good?

John Brown in my opinion, is good. Even though he murdered a lot of people, it was for a great cause, and those Southerners had it coming to them. The two sides already tried using words and laws but it didn’t work. People say he is a terrorist, and a madman, but the real horrible people are the slave owners. The Southerners beat and took away freedom and education from slaves. They even put free African Americans into slavery because judges would get more money for it. When you look at bad people in history, don’t look at John Brown, look at slave owners.

I think John Brown is a martyr more than a murderer. He is a martyr because he tried to free enslaved people and arm them. He also wanted them to fight a slave rebellion. He actually freed some enslaved people. He also tried to steal the Harpers Ferry Armory in West Virginia. He went to with his sons to fight. Sadly his sons died in the battle. He was stabbed and taken to jail. Where he was later hanged. He was a terrorist in the south but I think he was a martyr in the north.

I think that John Brown is a martyr because he had no other way then murdering and telling the south that slavery is not good.He said “I, John Brown am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood.”That means that the only way for slavery to end is by violence \. In Kansas he fought to help the slaves. Over two-hundred people died in this war. In Virginia he fought to help the slaves. He wanted to have rebellion for the slaves, he wanted them to be armed and start killing but, the slaves didn't do it. After that night the local militia came after him and caught him and killed him. John Brown is a martyr.

John Brown in my opinion is both, a martyr and a murderer. He is mostly a martyr and was known for being one, even though he killed innocent people. However he did kill them for a good cause. The text states from the social studies techbook on explorer 5, “Brown was an extreme abolitionist who felt he had a personal mission to eliminate slavery.” Brown was completely against slavery and was an extreme abolitionist. The text also states from explorer 5, “In revenge, John Brown led an attack on pro-slavery men in Pottawatomie Creek, Kansas, murdering five men and boys.” John Brown Killed innocent people because he wanted to end slavery. John Brown did not end up being successful and was executed and hanged. He was remembered as a martyr and the North honored him by ringing church bells and flying their flags at half mast.

I think he did the right thing. If someone shoots at you, you shoot back. The tensions in America were growing and Brown saw that there would be no peaceful solution. So Brown and his 21 followers attacked a federal armory. His plan was to arm the slaves and lead a revolt, but the slaves didn't come. America was too far gone to find a peaceful solution. He was eventually overpowered and captured. Once the marines came in it was over. John Brown is an American hero. Yes, he killed people but I still think he is awesome. John Brown, a true American.

I think that John Brown was a murderer more than a martyr. John Brown attacked a federal building and he killed many people. Even though he was just doing what he believed in he should've said his beliefs and tried to fix it without violence. Since he didn’t like slavery he led a slave rebellion and that isn’t good because he shouldn’t be violent, kill many people, and breaking into a building. He wanted everyone to die and to get very hurt and that would just get the South more mad at the North before they even think about not having slavery anymore. John Brown started such a bad thing that they called it Bleeding Kansas. John Brown is a murderer and not a martyr because he could of done a lot of more things to help stop slavery than using violence.

I believe John Brown was a murderer and not a martyr. Even though his cause was good because he wanted to eliminate slavery he murdered 5 men and boys in Kansas, Missouri. In the end of his journey he didn’t end slavery. But someone that stopped segregation didn’t use murder, they used words. This person was Martin Luther King Jr. Instead of murdering people he used his words to stop segregation. Violence is not the only way to overcome problems. According to ‘The Road to Disunion’ John Brown, “Captured some 60 people at Harper's Ferry, Virginia… and murdered 5 men and boys in Kansas, Missouri.” This shows how crazy and psycho John Brown was. Although his cause was revolutionary he killed many lives and in the end resolved nothing.

John Brown was a martyr, not a murderer, in my opinion. He may have had a little overreaction, but his intentions were good. For example, he did rob Harper Ferry, but to abolish slavery. His plan failed, with no slaves joining him. John Brown was a man who lived in the antebellum time period. He stood up for anti-slavery and he was so passionate about that that he was willing to kill people.  In the north he was known as a martyr and in the south he was known as a murderer. I think John Brown was a martyr because the only way that he could truly get the point across about slavery and how bad it was by using bloodshed. I think that John Brown is a martyr because he killed tons of people and got executed because of his beliefs that slavery was wrong. In October 1859 he and his 5 sons wanted to arm several slaves. It didn’t turn out well because all of his sons died and none of the slaves joined the raid. John was charged as a criminal and was executed in December 1859.  A martyr is somebody who sometimes killed and got killed for his/hers beliefs. John Brown was a martyr and was killed for being against slavery.

John Brown is a martyr who attacked a federal building. He is a murder though because he killed people but he died for religious reasons. He killed people and led a slave rebellion and they honored him. He died when he was leading the slave rebellion. This was gritty that he lead a slave rebellion. He was protesting to end slavery without that many people though. He cannot stop slavery with all the slaves he has. He is with his 5 sons who will all die for the cause to end slavery. He died for his opinion on anti-slavery. He is a murder because he killed people but he deserves to be a martyr because he killed people and fought to end slavery.

I think John Brown was a martyr because he died fighting for what he believed and what was right in his opinion. Maybe he killed people but doing it to end slavery was one of the best reasons to kill in the history of the world.
